Current Requirements for YouTube Monetization (2024)

At present, enabling monetization for your YouTube channel is no longer as straightforward as it was before 2017.

Before 2017:
You simply needed to create a YouTube channel, register for a Google AdSense account, and within two days, once your AdSense account was approved, you could start monetizing your videos without any additional requirements.

Now in 2024:
After successfully creating a YouTube account, you can upload videos and grow your channel. However, to enable monetization, you must meet the following criteria:

• Your channel must have at least 1,000 subscribers.
• Your channel must achieve 4,000 watch hours in the past 12 months.

Only after meeting these requirements can you proceed to the next step: submitting an application to enable monetization for your channel. This process involves a review by YouTube's team. Once they review your application, they may approve (or reject) your channel’s participation in the YouTube Partner Program.

Steps to Enable YouTube Monetization in 2024:​

1. Create a Gmail account.
2. Sign up for a YouTube account.
3. Create your YouTube channel.
4. Customize your channel and start uploading videos.
5. Grow your channel to meet the following thresholds:
   • 1,000 subscribers
   • 4,000 watch hours
6. Submit an application for Google AdSense and request monetization for your YouTube channel.
7. Wait for YouTube’s review process:
   • Fastest: 2 weeks.
   • Longest: Indefinite (e.g., some channels may take months for approval, as seen in cases where a channel met all criteria but waited over 4 months without a response).

Once Approved​

After successfully enabling monetization, you can start earning money from your videos.
