Before submitting a request to monetize your YouTube channel, you need to register with ad publishers. These entities will pay you if your channel is approved for monetization.

At this stage, you have two options:
  1. Use Google Adsense
  2. Join a YouTube Network
If you're not clear or unsure about these two methods, take a closer look at how to earn money through Google Adsense and YouTube Networks as detailed below:

Earning Through Google Adsense

What is Google Adsense?

When you link your channel to Google Adsense (GA), YouTube directly pays you for your video content. In other words, you receive 100% of the revenue generated from your videos.

Benefits of Using Google Adsense

  • YouTube works directly with you, ensuring you receive 100% of the earnings from your videos, typically more than joining a Network.
  • Once you reach $100, YouTube starts payments regardless of how long it takes to hit this threshold. These payments are tracked in your YouTube Analytics.
  • Payments are processed through bank transfers, checks, or Western Union.
  • Starting from 2020, you must verify your identity (via ID or banking documents) to receive payments, adding an extra layer of security.

Drawbacks of Google Adsense

  • Copyright Issues: If your channel violates copyright, YouTube can terminate your account. Any other associated channels may also be at risk.
  • Self-reliance: You are solely responsible for optimizing your videos, performing SEO, and driving traffic. Beginners may find this challenging.
  • Verification Delays: Waiting for a PIN confirmation from YouTube can take time.

Earning Through YouTube Network

What is a YouTube Network?

A YouTube Network is a third-party intermediary that distributes ads on behalf of Google on YouTube. Unlike Google Adsense, the Network directly pays you once you meet their payout criteria. This method is especially suited for beginners entering the YouTube space.

Note: Since 2017, Networks no longer allow channels using re-uploaded videos (Reup-Video) to join.

Benefits of Joining a Network

  • Higher Revenue Potential: Some Networks offer higher CPC (Cost-Per-Click) and CPM (Cost-Per-Mille) rates than Google Adsense.
  • Lower Payment Thresholds: Unlike Google Adsense’s $100 minimum, some Networks pay out at as little as $5 or $10.
  • Video Support: Networks often provide tools and guidance for video optimization, SEO, and traffic generation.
  • Support for Terminated Channels: Some Networks still pay for prior earnings even if your channel is unexpectedly terminated.

Challenges of Joining a Network

  • Tougher Entry Requirements: Besides meeting YouTube's monetization criteria, Networks may require your channel to have over 10,000 views or a high subscriber count.
  • Revenue Sharing: Networks typically take a cut of your earnings (e.g., 10%-20%).
  • Delayed Payments: Payments are often processed 1-2 months after the revenue is generated.
  • Scam Risks: Some unreliable Networks may not pay creators.

Decision Time

Take 5 minutes to reflect on which path aligns with your channel’s goals and your own abilities. Each method has its pros and cons, so choose based on what works best for your situation.
